SAFE Alliance, a partnership of Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, is developing an Advisory Committee of Black/African-American community members and allies who are willing to meet several times a year to give feedback about how to better reach and serve female and male Black/African-American survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence, as well as their families.
We would like more members of the Black/African-American community to be represented among our staff, board and volunteers, particularly in leadership positions; and we would like to provide services that are more culturally responsive to Black/African-American survivors and their families. Therefore, we want to be proactive and learn from an Advisory Committee how to reach and better serve survivors from this community. Members of our Advisory Committee will meet several times a year to provide feedback and advice on how SAFE Alliance can provide more effective, culturally responsive services through staff training, survivor feedback and community collaboration; how to increase representation of Black/African-Americans among our staff, volunteers and Board of Directors; and how to educate our community about child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and related services.
We will be holding our kick-off meetingon Tuesday, Feb. 23rd from 6:30-8:30pm at SafePlace. Refreshments will be served.
